Hands-on Educational Experiences for All Ages

The Botanic Garden at Georgia Southern offers unique interactive learning spaces that inspire curiosity, creativity, and a love for nature and history. Whether students are planting vegetables, listening to stories under the trees, or stepping back in time in a historic one-room schoolhouse, these spaces provide engaging, hands-on experiences for visitors of all ages.

Field Trips at the Garden

The Botanic Garden is a living museum, and we ask all visitors to enjoy, respect, and care for this special space.

  • Dress for the outdoors â€“ Wear closed-toe shoes, and bring insect repellent, sunscreen, and water.
  • Stay safe â€“ Watch for uneven ground and natural wildlife.
  • Be respectful â€“ Stay on paths, avoid flower beds, and do not pick plants.

Join Drs. Chad Posick and M. Dylan Spencer for a compelling presentation on the hidden world of botanical crime. From illegal timber harvesting to ginseng poaching and rare plant theft, this Gather & Grow explores the environmental, economic, and legal consequences of plant-related crimes. Learn how these activities harm ecosystems, fuel black markets, and undermine conservation efforts. Discover what actions we can take to prevent them.

Dr. McBrayer is a passionate biologist whose research reveals how reptiles survive in challenging environments. Since 2007, his field studies in Florida’s Ocala National Forest have documented remarkable animal adaptations, while his curation of 36,000 specimens preserves our region’s natural history.
