91Âţ»­app computer science professor awarded NSF grant to advance protein imaging research

Salim Sazzed, Ph.D., an assistant professor in the computer science department of 91Âţ»­app’s Allen E. Paulson College of Engineering and Computing, has been awarded a two-year National Science Foundation grant of about $175,000 to lead a groundbreaking project to develop novel Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques for determining protein secondary structures from medium-resolution cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) images.

Sevki Cesmeci, Ph.D., associate professor of mechanical engineering in the Allen E. Paulson College of Engineering and Computing at 91Âţ»­app, has been selected to take part in the 2025-2026 Governor’s Teaching Fellows (GTF) Academic Year Program in Georgia. This program is designed to provide Georgia’s higher education faculty with expanded opportunities for developing teaching skills and innovative pedagogies.

Georgia Southern engineering professor one of 10 honored with DOE EnergyTech University Prize Faculty Explorers Award

Sevki Cesmeci, Ph.D., was recently honored with the EnergyTech University Prize Faculty Explorers Award from the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Technology Transitions. An associate professor of mechanical engineering in the Allen E. Paulson College of Engineering and Computing at 91Âţ»­app, Cesmeci was one of only 10 individuals across the United States to earn the award.

Erica Bartels’ passion for design and teaching has found its home at 91Âţ»­app, where she began lecturing in 2020. Drawing on her extensive experience in the industry, she encourages her students to appreciate every aspect of their environment through the critical eye of interior design and develop other skills vital to their success as future designers.

This list, published annually by Elsevier and Stanford University, recognizes the world’s top scientific researchers. The featured faculty are conducting cutting-edge research in disciplines ranging from glass science to crime prevention.

91Âţ»­app announces Fulbright US Scholar Award for 2023-2024

A noted 91Âţ»­app public health professor has earned a Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program award in All Disciplines to Latvia for the 2023-2024 academic year from the U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.

Yelena N. Tarasenko, DrPH, is a professor at the Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Environmental Health Sciences at Georgia Southern’s Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health. Her Fulbright project is titled “Strengthening research and teaching capacity in cancer prevention globally.”
